Due to strike action Merseyrail will be running a reduced service tomorrow.
Trains will run every half hour from around 07:00 - 19:00, however it is possible that timetables will change during strike action.
Please visit the Merseyrail website or check @merseyrail on Twitter before you travel on Monday.
Speedy and Safe. Contactless payments on Merseyrail
Merseyrail customers can now make payments of £20 or under, using contactless technology.
All you need to do is touch your contactless credit, debit or prepaid card or device over a reader to pay for your travel. When a beep sounds or a green light flashes, your payment is complete.
The service is faster, lessening queuing times, more secure, and offers you more choice and flexibility. You will be able to use your card or device across the Merseyrail network.
What are contactless payments?
Contactless allows you to make payments with a MasterCard, Maestro or Visa card. It's like having the exact change wherever you go. Just a simple tap of your card is all it takes to pay at the checkout for items of £20 and under, and you don’t need to enter your PIN each time.
What do I have to do to make a contactless transaction?
Just follow these three easy steps;
Look for the contactless symbol, showing that contactless payments are accepted.
If the purchase is £20 or less, tap your card or device against the contactless reader. The contactless symbol shows you where to tap.
Look for a green light to show that your payment has been approved, and feel free to ask the shop assistant for a receipt. You can now be on your way!
What happens if I spend over £20?
There’s nothing to worry about. If your shopping or purchase comes to more than £20 you’ll simply be asked to enter your PIN into the machine as you usually would.
Where can I use contactless? Can it be used abroad?
You can use contactless in over thousands of locations across the UK. In food and coffee shops like Caffe Nero, Pret a Manger, Subway and Eat, pubs like The Slug and Lettuce, at your local Post Office, the M6 toll and now Merseyrail!
You can also use contactless in 48 countries worldwide: the United States, Canada, Thailand, Turkey, Australia… and many more. Just look for the Contactless symbol on the card reader.
How safe is contactless compared with Chip and PIN?
Just as safe! All the usual MasterCard, Maestro and Visa security measures apply, and occasionally we might ask you to enter your PIN just as a security measure. If you’re worried about any transaction on your card, whether you’re using contactless or chip and PIN, just give your bank a call.
